A property in the Yarra Valley where the garden has to hold its own against a very large view. The arrival stays quiet: a gravel turning circle, a dry stone ring around a single tree, ornamental pears set into mounded lawn. Closer to the house the ground is built rather than planted. A recycled timber pergola runs the length of the terrace, past the pool and out toward the court, and stone walled beds step down between the two.
